The Cooperative is not participating in the Texas electric deregulation at this time.

The Legislature of the State of Texas recognized the local control and oversight of Municipal power companies and electric cooperatives and excluded them from mandatory participation in the restructuring experiment and from state regulatory control. This granted each organization the right to decide if, and when, participating in the restructured market would be beneficial for their consumers.

The Board of Directors of Karnes Electric Cooperative, Inc. has opted not to participate in the Texas electric deregulation at this time. The Cooperative continues to monitor the restructuring experiment and will reconsider the item when it appears to be beneficial for all Karnes Electric Cooperative Members.
